GOLD EXPERIENCE ● 작년 일본 작가들의 사진전에 이어 올해 두 번째로 현 갤러리에서 기획하는 『GOLD-Experience』전은 현대 미술에서 금을 소재로 하는 회화 작품을 선보이는 한국과 일본 작가들의 전시입니다. 서양 미술사에서 금이 다루어지는 시대는 중세 이후부터 초기 르네상스 시대로 거슬러 올라가며, 당시의 성당 내부의 제단화의 형식에서 속세와는 단절된 신성을 암시하는 공간으로써 성인의 배경에 입혀진 금의 표현을 볼 수 있습니다. 중국과 일본, 한국의 미술사를 통해서도 알 수 있듯이 동양에서도 금의 소재는 여전히 독보적인 존재로써 예술 작품에 사용되어왔습니다. 물론 종교와 깊은 관련을 지니면서 서양에서와 마찬가지로, 성스러움의 상징적 의미로써 공예, 조각, 회화 등의 모든 예술분야에서 폭넓게 표현되어온 점은 결코 간과하지 않을 수 없습니다. 본 전시의 목적은, 동양과 서양의 미술사를 통해 금박이라는 소재를 이용하는 예술 작품들의 의미를 떠올리면서 현대 미술에서 동양과 서양의 전통적인 맥을 이어오고 있는 한국과 일본의 작가들의 작품을 통하여 현대미술의 다양한 표현양상에 새로움을 조명해보는 것에 있습니다. 특히 회화 분야에서 금이 다루어지는 작품에서의 주제가 이 시대에 얼마큼 확장 되어 질 수 있는가에 대한 가능성을 알아보고 아울러 작가들의 작업을 좀 더 흥미롭게 다가가고자 하는 의도에서 워크샵을 기획하게 되었으며 덧붙여서 금박이라는 소재가 예술 작품을 통해서 21세기의 현대미술에서 어떤 메시지를 전하고 있는지에 대해 그리고, 새로운 회화 표현의 가능성에 대해 재고할 수 있는 기회가 되기를 바랍니다. ■ 현 갤러리

Hyun gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition, "GOLD-Experience" as the second annual project of the gallery. This exhibition includes artists from Korea and Japan dealing a Gold leaf as a major painting language in the contemporary art. In the Western art history, the use of Gold spans from the Middle Ages to the Early Renaissance in religious paintings in order to indicate the holy spirits of the Saints. Likewise, the art history of China, Japan, and Korea shows that Gold has been exceptionally used in painting, sculpture, and craft highly religiously. This exhibition aims to disclose the usage of Gold in the contemporary art in relations to that of the Western and Eastern art history. In addition, the show investigates Gold as a language of the contemporary painting. Through workshops on the material at the gallery, viewers will be invited to rediscover the artworks at the exhibition with a better understanding. We hope to create an opportunity to think about Gold as a new symbolic meaning and also as a new possible language of painting of the century. ■ HYUN GALLERY
