Immature Pop, Seoul展 ● Immature: 1. 미숙한, 치기 어린 2. 다 자라지 못한 사회의 근본을 이루는 깊이 있는 요소를 다루기보다, 겉으로 드러나는 표면적 요소를 다루는 팝아트는 대중의 호응을 쉽게 얻어 상업적 힘을 갖는 반면, 본질적 고민을 해나가는 이들에게 외면을 받는다. 표면적이고 상업적인 속성은 팝아트 자신의 가치를 미숙하고 치기 어린 Immature의 상태로 몰아넣는다. Pop Art만의 Immaturity는 그 시작에서부터 언제나 논란의 중심이 되는 주제로서 작용되어 왔고, 이제는 그 자신의 정체성이 되어가고 있다. World's most Immature City: Seoul ● 서울은 전후 단 60년 만에 대부분의 도시의 구조물들이 구축된 도시이다. Pop Art가 가지고 있는 속성 중 하나인 Immaturity의 측면에서 보자면, 서울만큼의 강렬함을 가진 도시가 없다. 수백, 수천의 주거민이 삶을 영위하는 주거단지를 상업성의 논리로 순식간에 지어버리는 Immaturity, 성숙하지 못한 주체들에 의해 생산된 온라인 정보들이 사회적 흐름을 결정 지어버리는 Immaturity, 주체성이 부재된 상태에서 해외의 사례들을 1:1로 복제해 생산해내는 Immaturity 등등. 서울은 Immaturity의 아이콘으로서 충분한 도시이다. 'Immature Pop'은 서울에서 이루어지는 팝아트의 아이덴티티를 만들어내기 위해서 제시한 키워드이다. 중국의 Political pop, 일본의 J-Pop. 서울이 가질 수 있는 아이덴티티는 무엇일까에 대한 고민에서 나온 대안이다. 그 어떤 도시가 서울만큼의 Immaturity를 가지고 있을까? Exhibition "Immature Pop, Seoul" ● Pop Art, which treats epidermal tissue of society, is easily being disregarded by radical sociologists. Superficial and commercial nature has been putting Pop Art itself in a state of immaturity. This controversial state provided lots of issues and had been sympathized by lots of people who wants to confront art with more easy attitudes. Public do love immaturity of pop art. World's most Immature City: Seoul! ● Seoul is the city that made in only sixty years after War. By grading cities by degree of immaturity, we can easily pick Seoul as the best. The Immaturity that duplicating culture of leading countries without independent thinking, the Immaturity that builds residential complex in few months by considering only profit, the Immaturity that decide primary issues by referring to netizens who didn't even grow up, and the Immaturity that promotes women to alter their faces for their dreams are only the small part of evidences. Seoul is the city that fully deserved to be selected as an icon of Immaturity. 'Immature Pop' is a new name for our pop art in Seoul.
