나의 작업은 요즘 사람들, 현재의 여성들의 심리와 감성을 일상의 한 단면을 도려내듯이 포착해낸 찰나를 통한 표현이 주를 이룬다. 사적인 순간을 응시한, 움직임을 담은 디지털 카메라의 스냅 컷 장면들이다. 스냅 컷의 대상은 주로 클럽이나 카페에 모여 순간을 즐기는 현대인이거나 거리에 자기 멋대로 치장한 옷차림에 사람들... 자기만족을 위해 입는 사람들 등 현재의 우리 주변인들이다. 그들의 일상은 즐거워 보인다. 그러나 즐거운 모습에서 정작 즐거운 건 그들의 외면일 뿐 내제해야 할 의식은 부재에 이른다. 의미 없는 만남과 대화의 연속 속에서 진정성은 사라지고, 사라져가는 의식의 끝자락을 부여잡고 흐려지는 정신과 자괴감, 확신 없는 자기 존중감으로 자신의 진정한 요구와 감정에 점점 더 무뎌질수록 밖으로 자신을 증명하는데 지나치게 많은 에너지를 쏟는다. ● 나는 공허의 허기를 달래기 위한 감성으로 자신의 만족을 찾는 이들이 스스로 고립 되어지는 삶에서 마네킹처럼 굳어지고, 도취되는 일상을 발견한다. 축제 후에 밀려오는 허기와 허구적인 욕망의 공간을 살고 있는 도시의 모습을 담고 그 속에서 우리를 다시 생각한다. 이러한 안타까운 시선을 작업으로 표현하고 있다. ● 이번 쇼윈도작업은 그런 시선의 연장으로 볼 수 있다. 지나가는 사람들의 시선을 끌어 구매욕을 북돋움으로써 점포 내로 손님을 유도하는 것이 목적인 대도시에 쇼윈도는 거리를 지나는 사람들의 혼을 빼앗는 상징적인 욕망의 독립된 공간으로 볼 수 있다. 우리는 그곳에 진열된 상품을 하나 고르기도 하지만 쇼윈도에 비친 자기 모습을 한참 동안이나 바라보기도 한다. 쇼룸과 거리의 풍경 사이에 큼직한 통유리엔 씁쓸한 나의 마음이 투영되어 있는 듯한 상황에 직면하게 된다. 또 하나의 도취된 일상의 공간으로 이야기하고 싶다. ■ 김경미

The daily life of those who pour out extreme energy on proofing themselves and find satisfaction might look happy. After all, it's only their outward appearance which seems to be satisfied whereas the inner consciousness seems to have disappeared. I re-think of the hollow feelings hidden behind splendidness and the look of ourselves living in a city full of desires. ● The work 'Showcase' can be regarded as an extension of this thought. The showcase, which purpose is to call attention of people passing by and to lead them into the shop, can be seen as a symbol of desires and an independent space that captivates people's soul. Usually one of the displayed items is bought but sometimes people just stand in front of the showcase and look into their reflected appearance. People experience their somewhat bitter feelings reflected on the big glass wall which lies between the store and the street scenery. This can be seen as another intoxicated space of daily life. ● The work 'Her flowerpot' is telling a story about a woman who raises a plant and finds her personal romanticism to escape the routine life patterns. ■ Kyoung Mi Kim
