Sunset on your Breath의 1000자 이야기 ● '구스타브 클림트(Gustav Klimt)', '에곤 쉴레(Egon Schiele)' 세계미술사에서 지대한 역할을 한 유럽이 낳은 세계적인 대가들이다. 더 정확히 말하자면 오스트리아가 낳은 세계적인 작가들이다. 그들 이후 최근에 유럽과 미국에서 폭발적인 관심을 받으면서 세계적인 작가의 반열에 한 걸음씩 한 걸음씩 다가가고 있는 작가가 있다. 바로 오스트리아 태생의 비앙카 레글(Bianca Regl)이다. 이미 2008년 5월 UNC갤러리는 다양한 국적을 가지고 있으면서 현재 세계미술의 중심지로 자리매김하고 있는 베를린을 중심으로 활발한 활동을 하면서 유럽과 미국의 미술계에서 호평을 받고 있는 여섯 명의 작가를 소개한 적이 있다. 그 중 회화부문에서 지대한 관심을 받으면서 급부상하고 있는 Bianca Regl을 2010년 새해 첫 개인전을 통해 보여주고자 한다. ● 현재 비앙카 레글(Bianca Regl)은 유럽과 미국을 배경으로 왕성한 활동을 벌이고 있다. 불황의 암울한 세계미술경기 속에서도 뛰어난 작품성으로 굵직한 세계 콜렉터들의 수집 대상이 되고 있다. 그녀의 가장 큰 장점은 주변에서 접할 수 있는 현상 및 대상의 진정성과 본질을 탄탄한 드로잉이 뒷받침 된 과감한 공간구도 속에서 감각적인 색과 힘차고 절제된 붓질로 순간적인 이미지의 느낌을 간결하게 풀어내는 것이다. ● 2010년 1월 21일 ~ 2월11일 까지 UNC갤러리에서 보여지는 비앙카 레글(Bianca Regl)의 'Sunset on your breath'에서는 마치 우주공간에서 유영을 하고 있는 듯한 착각을 불러일으키는 수영장 시리즈이다. 단색으로 이루어진 배경위에 빛과 어둠의 대비를 그녀의 독특한 기법(brushstroke)을 통해 나온 작품은 바라보는 관객들에게 다채로운 느낌을 준다. 물속에서의 빛의 굴절과 반사로 인해 시시각각 변하는 인체의 조각을 힘차고 감각적으로 표현해 내고 있다. 멀리서 보면 하나의 사실적 표현이지만, 가까이 다가가 바라보면 굵직한 선들로 이루어진 추상화로 다가온다. 이러한 전이와 모호함은 인체의 긴박함과 관능적인 미를 잘 표현하고 있다. Color, brushwork, canvas는 Bianca Regl 작품의 중요한 매개체이며, 특히 Brush stroke는 그녀만의 창조적 수단이다. ● 이번 UNC갤러리에서는 작품성과 특유의 기법, 그리고 타고난 감각적인 재능을 유럽은 물론이고 미국에서도 호평을 받고 있으며, 세계Contemporary Young Artist중에서 두각을 나타내고 있는 Bianca Regl의 작품을 국내에 소개함으로써 세계 contemporary Art의 또 다른 진수를 보여주고자 한다. ■ 홍호진

A Thousand-Word Story of 'Sunset on Your Breath' ● Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. They were maestros from Europe, who had played tremendous roles in the history of the world art. To be more precise, they were the world-class artists born in Austria. Recently, an artist appeared, approaching the rank of world-class artists step by step, while attracting an explosive attention from Europe and the United States. She is Bianca Regl born in Austria. Already in May, 2008, UNC Gallery introduced to the Korean audience six artists of diverse nationalities who were active in Berlin being established as a center of the world art, while being highly reputed also in Europe and the United States. UNC Gallery would like to focus on Bianca Regl who is rapidly emerging as a world-class painter by holding her first solo exhibition in 2010. Currently, Bianca Regl is very active in Europe and the United States. Despite the gloomy world economic recession, her works are very popular among world-class collectors because of their outstanding artistic value. ● Her strongest point is that she expresses authenticity and essence of the phenomena and objects easily found around us with sensuous colors, powerful and controlled brush touches to show some instant images simply in the bold spatial structure supported by the firm drawing. ● Her "Sunset on Your Breath" which will be shown at UNC Gallery for the period from January 21 to February 11, 2010 is a swimming pool series evoking an illusion of swimming in the universe. Her unique brushstroke describes the contrast between light and darkness against the monochrome background only to render a colorful feeling for the audience. Her human body sculptures vary every hour and minute due to refraction and reflection of the lights in the water, and therefore, they look powerful and sensuous. When viewed from afar, they are real, but when viewed from near, they are the abstract paintings consisting of thick lines. Such transition and vagueness connote tension of the human body as well as its sensual aesthetics. Color, brushwork and canvas are Bianca Regl's important media, and particularly, the brush stroke is her own unique tool for creation. ● This time, UNC Gallery is willing to show to the Korean audience another true aspect of the world contemporary art by featuring the works produced by Bianca Regl who is highly reputed for her artistry, unique technique and inborn sensuous talent not only in Europe but also in the United States. ■ Hong Ho-jin
