모듬 회식

한국인의 회식이 끝난 자리는 종종 우리에게 다이나믹한 테이블 광경을 선사한다. 열정적인 근성에 알코올이라는 첨가제가 가미되면 그야말로 분골쇄신(紛骨碎身)의 비장함마저 감돈다. ● 열정적인 회식이 휩쓸고 간 후의 테이블은 참혹하다 못해 아름답다. 수많은 이야기, 정서들이 뒤엉킨 회식이 끝난 자리는 그 당시의 기운을 고스란히 담고 있다. 나에게는 시각적으로나 감성적으로 매우 감명 깊은 "꺼리"였고 내가 지나쳤던 회식자리들을 기록했다. 그리고 불특정 다수를 위한 종합선물세트처럼 이들을 한데 묶어 "모듬"해버렸다.

사람과 음식 사이의 흔적이 뒤섞인 회식자리의 테이블은 쓰레기더미가 갖는 우연적인 조형성과 닮아 있다. ● Trashtopia 연작은 근 몇 년간 찍어뒀던 사진들의 한 경향으로부터 출발한 작업이다. 서울, 인천 외곽지역 곳곳에 상주하는 폐기물처리장이나 인도여행에서 기록했던 쓰레기 더미 위에 뒤엉킨 개나 소들은 우연적인 조형성에서 희열을 느끼는 나의 취향을 대변하는 듯 하다. ● 난 이러한 소재들을 하나의 재료처럼 사용하였다. 회화가 다루어 온 어쩌면 가장 통속적인 대상 중 하나인 산수(山水)의 형식을 차용하여 물감 덩어리 혹은 찌꺼기의 물성과 사진매체가 갖는 직접적인 환기작용을 혼합, 보다 중첩적인 시각언어의 내러티브를 제시하고자 한다. ■ 김진기

We normally face Dynamic scenes from dinner table in Korea. Especially if they have a drink, there will be full of tragic atmosphere of Bun-gol-soe-sin (strenuous efforts) around the table. ● After this exciting dinner is finished, the table looks even beautiful with the mess that remains. A lots of stories and emotions from the dinner fully involve the atmosphere of the time. I documented them from the dinners that I have joined as they gave me visual and emotional impressions. And I mixed them up like the gift set collection for unspecified majorities. ● The view of dinner table mixed with vestiges of people and food garbage presents accidental formative beauty of trash heaps. "Trashtopia" Series started from the tendency of image documented from the dinners that I joined for several years. I n my work, dogs and cows mingled in trash heaps from India or a waste disposal site in the outskirts of Seoul and Incheon represent my artistic taste (Ecstatic feeling from the accidental format in a mess). ● I want to show the narrative of visual language that is piled up one on another by mixing with an immediate ventilation that a lump of paint and photography give us ,and borrowing the form of conventional landscape painting. ■ KIMJINKEY
