Cultures Connect – 문화적 소통

한국 사회는 세계 사회 속에서 무역, 안전, 관광 등의 협약을 통해 점점 다문화 사회로 통합 발전되고 있다. 특히 2010-2012년은 한국 방문의 해로 지정되었다. 이러한 한국적 상황에 이번 전시인 문화적 소통『Cultures Connect』는 의미가 있다.

이번 전시는 18명의 한국에 거주하고 있는 자가들로 구성 되었다. 그들은 7개국의 서로 다른 국적의 작가들로 언어와 문화가 다르지만 현재 한국을 거점으로 살고 있는 공통점을 가지고 있다. 다양한 국적의 작가들은 국제적인 경험을 가지고 있으며, 서로 다른 연령대를 형성하고 있다. 작품의 경향도 회화, 비디오, 사진, 조각,설치 등 다양하다. 이렇게 서로 다른 분야의 작가들임에도 불구하고 그들의 공통 관심사는 예술을 통해 서로 다른 문화를 배우고 소통하려고 한다는 점이다. 이번 전시는 다국적 작가들과 관객들에게 문화적 소통을 통한 지속적인 교류의 장으로써의 출발점이 될 것이다. ■ 리차드 존 보먼트

Cultures Connect ● Korea is rapidly developing into a multicultural society as well as becoming more integrated into the world community through trade agreements, security pacts and tourism. The years 2010-2012 have been designated Visit Korea Years. This Exhibition entitled 『Cultures Connect』 is therefore both timely and relevant to the current climate in Korea. ● The 18 artists taking part in this exhibition all live in Korea. They come from 7 different countries; speak different languages and have grown up in cultures very different from the one in which they now find themselves living. The group includes both young emerging artists as well as experienced and internationally recognized artists. The ages of the artists span almost three generations. The styles of art range from modern to traditional and include painting, print, video, photography, sculpture and installation works. ● Despite so many differences these artists have come together because they share a mutual interest in communicating with the world through their art in a spirit of multicultural co-operation. ■ Richard J.
