색채에 말을 걸다

가정의 행복을 상징하는 꿈꾸는 정원 ● 밝고 아름다운 색채는 감정을 고조시킨다. 밝고 화사한 색깔로 가득한 그림과 마주하면 저절로 즐거워지고 행복한 감정에 사로잡힌다. 그리하여 새삼 살아 있다는 사실이 얼마나 고마운 일인지 실감하게 된다. 이처럼 밝은 색채이미지는 삶에 대한 에너지로 작용한다. 단지 보는 것만으로도 삶의 희열을 느끼게 되는 것이다. 그림의 역할이란 이처럼 삶의 아름다움을 일깨워주는데 있다. 윤향남의 그림은 긍정의 논리 위에서 출발한다. 밝고 화려한 원색의 꽃그림과 마주하는 순간 세상이 얼마나 아름다운 곳인지를 불현듯 깨닫게 된다. 우리의 현실이 아무리 각박하고 척박할지라도 능히 살만한 가치가 있는 곳임을 증명하려는지 모른다. 주위로 눈을 돌리면 이웃집 베란다에 놓인 조그만 화분 하나에도, 길가에 핀 들꽃 한 송이에도 생명의 기운이 충만하다는 사실을 자각케 한다. 그는 그림이 우리들 삶에 오아시스와 같은 역할을 할 수 있기를 자청한다. 그의 그림은 이처럼 삶에 대한 긍정의 에너지를 담뿍 안고 있다. 분주한 일상 속에서 자신의 존재를 잊고 살아가는 현대인은 감정이 메마르기 십상이다. 자연과 마주할 수 있는 시간이 없기에 삶의 의미를 되새기기는커녕 다람쥐 쳇바퀴 돌듯 무념의 일상을 되풀이할 따름이다. 이럴 때 자연의 아름다움을 찬미하는 그림과 만나면 문득 자신의 현재를 되돌아보게 된다. 그림이 단순히 시각적인 즐거움만을 제공하는 것은 아니다. 감정을 고조시키고 삶의 의미를 일깨움으로써 새로운 에너지를 충전할 수 있는 계기를 가져다주는 것이다.

그의 그림은 실제보다 과장된 색채이미지, 즉 눈에 보이는 모든 형태를 밝은 원색계열의 색채이미지로 통합한다. 그렇다고 해서 비현실적인 세계를 추구하는 것은 아니다. 그 자신의 소소한 일상적인 생활공간은 물론이려니와 아름답고 아기자기한 가정의 정원, 그리고 여행지 풍경 등 그 자신이 체험한 현실을 기반으로 한다. 이처럼 현실적인 감각 위에서 때로는 그 자신의 꿈과 사랑과 행복, 그리고 낭만적인 감정을 담아 실제보다 아름다운 이상적인 세계를 표현한다.

그의 그림은 크게 꽃을 소재로 한 정물과 여러 가지 소품이 조화를 이루는 실내풍경, 꽃과 나무가 어우러지는 정원풍경, 그리고 실내와 바깥을 하나의 관점으로 바라보는 풍경으로 구분할 수 있다. 이와 같은 몇 가지 경향의 작품에서 빠지지 않는 소재는 꽃이다. 더불어 나비를 비롯하여 새와 말, 강아지, 오리, 닭 등 동물도 한몫을 한다. 뿐만 아니라 각종 첼로, 바이올린, 피아노 등 악기와 책, 찻잔, 소파, 탁자, 의자, 과일, 유리글라스, 실내조명등, 화분 등이 등장한다. 이들 소재를 내용에 따라 적절히 배치하여 구성적인 아름다움을 이끌어낸다. 갖가지 꽃이 만발한 정원에서 나비와 함께 춤추는 소녀들이나 악기를 연주하는 여인의 모습은 그 자신의 꿈과 희망을 상징한다. 뿐만 아니라 책을 보거나 찻잔과 마주하는 일상적인 삶의 모습에서는 소녀다운 꿈과 희망이 읽혀진다. 그가 바라보는 세상은 근심과 걱정이 없는 정화된 이미지로 표현된다. 그의 그림은 분명히 현실을 기반으로 하고 있음에도 실제보다 미화된 회화적인 환상이 자리한다. 삶에 대한 그 자신의 꿈과 희망 그리고 행복의 감정으로 덧칠하는 까닭이다.

그의 작품세계에서 정원은 이상적인 삶의 공간을 지향한다. 정원은 가꾸는 사람의 감각과 취향을 반영하게 마련이다. 꿈과 사랑과 행복과 낭만을 추구하는 사람의 정원은 그렇게 꾸며진다. 그가 꿈꾸는 정원은 다름 아닌 그림 속의 정경들이다. 누구나 아기자기하게 꾸며놓은 그의 정원에 앉아 차를 마시거나 책을 보거나 달콤한 꿈길로 빠져드는 상상을 하게 된다. 아름답고 달콤하고 따스하고 행복한 정서로 물들여지고 있는 까닭이다. 그의 그림은 우리들이 꿈꾸는 공통의 정서, 즉 행복한 가정에 대한 욕구를 채워준다. 최근의 실내풍경에서는 견고한 형태미와 함께 공간적인 여유를 느끼게 하는 구성이 돋보인다. 이로 인해 오히려 그림의 심도는 더욱 깊어진다. 소재와 소재 사이의 간격이 멀어지는 대신에 그 사이에는 여백의 미와 사색의 공간이 자리한다. 사유를 이끄는 미의식이 자리하는 공간이다. 무엇보다 빈틈이 없을 만큼 화면에 가득하던 소재들이 저마다 독립적인 공간을 차지하면서 구성적인 아름다움을 위해 화합한다. 특정 소재를 중심으로 하는 인위적인 구도가 아니라, 마치 스냅사진처럼 자연스러운 구도가 인상적이다. 소재들이 화면 밖으로 잘려나가는 대담한 구도를 그대로 수용하는 그의 미적 감각이 신선하다. 뿐만 아니라 아름다운 색채이미지와 결코 진지하거나 따분하지 않은 경쾌한 형태미는 시각적인 즐거움을 배가시킨다. 이렇듯이 그의 작품세계는 자기진화를 거듭한다. ■ 신항섭

Utopia filled with dream, love, and romanticism ● The taste of chromatic painting is surely a image of colors. Colors mixing sticky oil contents and mineral pigments show its own material properties in itself. When it comes to pure color, chromatic one is eyecatching by more matured, revealed color. On the other hand, mixing colors makes more dense, deep color image. We can say that the color image with deep density is the very best characteristic in chromatic painting only. ● Yoon Hyang-nam's recent paintings make the most use of chromatic colors' properties it has. Above all, her paintings escalate visual beauty more by filling canvas with elegant, brilliant chromatic colors fully. Having a good command of deep chromatic colors freely shows depth of stylish taste for chromatic painting. At least it seems to her there is no taboo as fas as colors are concerned. It seems that there is no reason at all for her to be bound by realistic color image in order to reach pictorial idealism she seeks. Accordingly her paintings reveal beautiful scenes which associate ourselves with exoticism and Utopia. ● As always she does, she attaches much more importance to the beauty of colors in paintings. In the method of expressing her painting, she gives priority to combination of colors rather than formative description. Generally her painting is bright and splendid because she likes to use warm colors above all. Watching these luxurious paintings of warm colors makes us feel great happiness. This color image prior to formative description stimulates our emotion quite enough so we can feel visual pleasure. The sense of colors is derived from her girlish aesthetic susceptibility trying to look on the bright side of the things. Her girlish aesthetic receptivity dreaming a dream, love and romance is described vividly in her paintings. ● All of her subject matters and objects in itself make our mind affluent. Whatever materials she choose, there always flowers are in her canvas. To that extent she is catpivated by flowers' beauty. She maybe indulges in various dazzling brilliance of flowers which they have. Including interior scene decorated by flowers, all of her paintings looking out of the forest, garden, street through the window flowerbed and her other paintings using materials of ballerinas or horses, there should be a flower without fail, the very core image in her canvas. In this regard, flower connotes more than simple material of flower in her paintings. The reason why she choose flower as central image is maybe attributed to flower's formative beauty and its mystery of beautiful colors. She likes chromatic colors unusually so flowers can be the very proper material. The other materials seem to be dyed by flowers, central image. Furthermore her paintings are wholly covered with brilliant, luxurious chromatic colors of floral ones. She seems to show her desire to dye world with floral colors so materialize her desire through paintings. The world covered with floral colors must be a Utopia. Yes, it is. She is trying to describe ideal world in her paintings by deviating from simple formality, realization of current world. ● However her world never be a groundless fiction isolated from reality. Even though her paintings are described by a little exaggerated chromatic colors which makes differ from real colors, they never loses sense of reality because her own experiences of daily life are expressed in her canvas. Some sceneries of her paintings look different from real world because of formative interpretation, which is just a result of adding color image unlike reality. That is because of painting's inherent attribute of dreaming beautified world. That's just an outcome of naive desire and passion to beautify our world a little bit more. ● It's quite natural for a woman running home to use mainly trivial, daily materials and objects. Of course there are other paintings of ballerinas, music and exotic scenaries of travel place. Even in these uncommon materials and objects, her abundant aesthetic receptivity are melt down in there. In a word, she expresses her own feeling of daily life, dream, love, romance and idealism in her paintings. ● The objects in her paintings are various kinds of household utensils; book, sofa, vase, light stand, teacups, doll, cushion, musical instrument and bird, horse, cat, puppy, hen, duck etc. Her favorite composition is to look out of the window indoors of garden, forest and village scenary. We can understand these scenaries with flowers mostly are the very goodness of this world. With these animals and plants together we can make peaceful scenary, which is the very best Utopia. ● While preparing this exhibition, she shows more dense, matured description style. One of her change is to make the most use of filling canvas with materials and objects. The composition full of brilliant, beautiful colors together with various materials is to reflect her mind seeking for affluent world. We can read her intention to fill people with happiness through paintings. When we watch her paintings actually, it is not a strange thing for us to have illusion that we are in her paintings because there are message of dream, hope in them replacing our subconscious desire. ■ SHINHANGSUP
