바라보다

나의 작업은 '나'를 찾는 일에서 시작한다. 어린 시절의 '나'와 현재의 '나'는 같지 않고 미래의 '나'는 어떻게 변할지 알 수 없다. 왜냐하면 '나'라는 사람은 일정하게 고정되어 있지 않고, 항시 변동하고 발전하는 주변의 환경과 연령에 따라 바뀌는 사회적 역할에 따라서 달라지기 때문이다. 그래서 나는 '나'를 찾는 일을 내 안에서가 아닌 나를 둘러싸고 있는 외부적인 환경에서 찾고 있는 것이다.

즉 내가 살고 있는 일상적이고 낯익은 삶의 풍경을 끊임없이 바라보면서 '나'라는 존재를 알고자 한다. 이는 역사적으로, 그 시대의 사람을 말할 때 역사적 배경과 사회적 환경을 전제로 유추하여 말하는 것과 같은 방법이며 누구나 자신을 대신 하여 말할 때 다른 대상으로 대변하여 말하는 것과 같은 것이다. 나는 '나'라는 존재를 내가 바라보는 풍경 속에서 찾고자 한다.

이번 전시에 나타난 이미지들은 내가 주로 지나다니는 길과 내가 지나갔었던 길이다. 우연히 지나간 길속에서 나의 일상을 알게 되고 그곳은 내가 어떤 곳에서 어떻게 살고 있는지 보여준다. 대도시의 헝클어 있는 도로위의 혼잡한 버스와 자동차, 그 도로를 거닐고 있는 사람들, 가로 길과 세로 길이 만나서 생기는 교차길, 산을 넘어 다른 지역으로 가는 언덕길 등이다. ● 복잡하고 혼잡한 도시 속에 살고 있는 나는 나를 둘러싸고 있는 환경을 객관적인 시각으로 보려고 노력하고 있으며 앞으로도 '나'를 찾는 노력은 계속 될 것이다. ■ 송지연

Myworks originate from searching for what 'I' am. I, now, am not same as what I used to be in the past and not sure what Iwill be in the future. Because, I am not stationed in one place, but in several places according to social ranks that changes by theenvironment and age. As a result, I discover myself in the external space, not in me, myself. That is, I try to find out what 'I' amwhile watching the surroundings that is familiar with my life. This reflects that we talk about a historical figure judging from his or her historical and social environment and we represent ourselves as certain objects. I am looking out for what 'I' am in my daily life. ● Images in my exhibition show two types of roads; one I follow very often and the other I followed. I come to realize my daily life from the roads I happen to face, where my life is open to the viewers; buses and cars which are bumper to bumper, people strolling along the crowded roads, intersections, roads on thehillside, and so on. ● I, who live in a hectic city, am making efforts to view the circumstances around me in an objective way and the journey into my world will remain in progress. ■ SONGJIYEON
