화려함과 편안함의 충돌과 조화

일상의 사물에서 인간의 모습을 보다 ● 나의 작업들은 대체적으로 편안히 안고 기댈 수 있는 쿠션과 편히 입는 티셔츠 등 평상복, 두 가지로 나뉜다. 쿠션은, 당당한 모습으로 커다랗게 화폭 정중앙에 있는 쿠션 하나나, 또는 어느 날 날아온 깃털에 눌린, 쌓여있는 쿠션들의 모습이다. 여기에서 깃털은 아마 쿠션 속에 있던 하나의 깃털일 뿐이었지만, 세상 밖으로 나오면서 자신의 모습을 찾고, 자유라는 힘이 생기게 된 것이다. 쿠션들 안에 갇힌 깃털들은 그 힘에 눌려버렸다. 이것은 마치 우리 자신 속의 한 부분이 외부에 나왔을 때 그것이 얼마나 다양하게 변하는지는 같은 어머니 뱃속에서 나온 형제나 학교 동창들을 보면 알 수 있을 것이다. 조그마한 깃털 하나도 마찬가지일 것이다. 어찌 보면 엉뚱한 소재일지 몰라도 우리가 깃털 하나 처럼 소소한 일상의 삶을 살 수도 있지만, 또 그 깃털하나가 의미있게 된다면, 그것의 영향은 매우 클 것이라고 생각한다. 이렇게 나는 나의작업의 모든 모티프가 인간의 모습으로 비유해서 보기도 한다. 쿠션을 사람들의 당당한 모습으로 볼 수도 있고, 하찮은 가벼운 것으로 인해 영향을 받은 모습이라고 볼 수 있다.

두 번째는 티셔츠 등 평상복이다. 티셔츠나 평상복은 단순히 쇼 윈도우 옷걸이에 걸려 있었지만, 그것을 바라보면서 그 옷이 자신에게 어울린다는 생각할 때까지 머릿속에서 수없이 자신에게 입혀보고, 어울린다고 생각할 때 비로소 구매할 것인가, 아니면 보고 가기만 할 것인가를 결정할 것이다. 사람들은 옷을 고를 때 쇼윈도라던가 마네킹에 입혀 있는 옷을 보면서 자신에게 잘 어울리는지 아닌지 자유롭게, 그리고 편하게 상상 속에서 누가 뭐라 할 것 없이 입혀볼 것이다. 그래서 나는 편안히 입는 티셔츠를 옷걸이에 걸어놓고 '이걸 입으면 어떨까? 괜찮을까?' 편히 생각하도록 하고 싶다. 옷의 역할보다는 보기만 하는 장식품이라고나 할지 모르지만, 걸려있는 옷은 또 각각의 그 옷을 입은 사람의 모습으로 대치해서 볼 수도 있을 것이다. 이렇게 사람들은 가끔 자신의 모습을 사물로 대치시켜 볼 때가 있다. 그냥 아무렇지 않게 놓여진 티셔츠라도 그 안에서 자신의 모습을 보기도 한다. ■ 박미리

Find a human from daily things ● My works are usually divided into the cushions that we can comfortable lean on or have in our arms, and T-shirts which are comfortably wearable. A big, splendid cushion is in the right center of a canvas or several cushions, which are pressed by a suddenly-flown feather, are accumulated. Here, the feather is just the feather in the cushions, but getting out of the world, it gets to find itself and have the power of freedom. The feathers confined in cushions are pressed by the power. When a part of our body comes out, it can be changed diversely, which is easily found through our brothers and sisters or our fellow students. It is same for a small feather too. In a certain respect, it can be an extraordinary material, but we can live a trivial life like a feather, and if the feather becomes meaningful, its influence will become big, I think. I compare all the motifs of my works to the appearance of human beings. A cushion can be seen as human beings' grand appearance or as influence by a trivial, light thing. ● The second material is a T-shirt, an ordinary dress. T-shirts or ordinary dresses are hung on the hangers of a show window, but looking at them, we numerously try them on in imagination until we think a certain T-shirt goes well with us. And then, we decide whether to buy it or not. When choosing a dress, people try on several dresses in imagination comfortably and freely, looking at a show window or the mannequins wearing the dresses. I want them to comfortably think, 'Is this or that dress okay to me?', looking at the T-shirts on hangers. The shirts may look like just the decorations without the roles of shirts, but the shirts can be substituted by the appearance of the person wearing the shirts. People sometimes see themselves through certain things. Through the T-shirts that are put carelessly, we see ourselves. ■ PARKMIRI
