오브제 홀릭 ● 나의 작품은 현실에 비쳐지는 비현실 세계로, 얼핏 보면 현실 이지만 그 안에 비현실 세계가 숨어있는 사물의 모습을 나타낸다. 나는 현대인이 사회의 주체임에도 불구하고 발달되는 문명과 빠르게 돌아가는 사회구조 속에서 자아상실, 인간소외, 개성상실 등의 이유로 인간이 하나의 "기능 덩어리"로 보여 지고 있음을 심각한 현실문제로 여겨 왔다. '현대인'을 주제로 현대 문명사회에서의 인간과 사물의 형상을 상징화 하고자 한다.

"나의 작품 안에는 어떤 수수께끼라도 푸는 양 여러 가지의 숨은 그림들이 존재한다. 나는 내 작품에서 사물을 실제로는 있을 수 없는 상황으로 그려낸다. 이러한 수수께끼 상황은 생각과 마음속에 의식되어 존재에 대한 욕망을 만족시켜 주는 것이다. 일상적인 사물에 강한 생명력을 불어넣어 대상 사이에 새로운 질서와 강한 의미를 만들어낸다."

친숙한 대상들과 재현된 대상들 사이에 비정상적인 관계를 이룩하면서, 객관적인 방법에 의한 세부 묘사에 따라 재현된다. 근접성 또는 대립에 의한 사물들이 가지는 관계성을 지속하면서, 일반적인 이미지와는 다른 엉뚱한 결합을 통해 다른 사물로 대상들을 변형시켜 전혀 다른 이미지의 결과를 보인다.

대상을 세밀히 표현하면서 그림에 나타나는 차가운 회색조의 단조로움 안에는 사물들과 우리 사이의 연관성과 부재에 대한 모든 암시의 힘이 뿌리내리고 있다. 반복적인 이미지와 회색과 흰색의 색감으로 현대의 차가움을 표현한다.

나의 작품에서는 현대인이 평소에 일반적으로 많이 사용하는 일상 사물들을 새로운 변형과 결합을 통하여 재탄생된 이미지 안에서 꿈속에 환상과 결합하는 현실을 창조하고자 한다. ■ 정운선

Object Mania ● My work shows a non-real world reflected in reality. It looks realistic at a glance, but my work reveals the object that encloses non-reality. A human being is the subject of society. But today in the social structure of rapid civilization, he or she is regarded as a "functioning part," therefore suffering loss of the self, human alienation or loss of individuality. I think it is a serious matter today. Thus, in my work, I deal with the issue of "people today" and try to express, in a symbolic way, the images of people and objects situated in a civilized contemporary society. ● "There are a number of hidden pictures in my painting, seeming like a pictorial puzzle or riddle. I transform an object into something that is not plausible or can't be possible in reality. Such a perplexing situation resolves into thoughts and mind and therefore satisfies a desire. I try to infuse strong vitality into an ordinary object and create a new order and strong meaning between the taken objects." ● As the familiar objects and the represented ones in the painting establish an odd relationship, they are realistically rendered in detail. Whilst the objects keep relations of similarity or contrast, the juxtaposed images create a completely unusual result, being transformed into something really off through unexpected combination. The objects are carefully rendered in detail but the overall painting shows a cool, grey tone, of which the monotony implies the relation or absence between the objects and us. The repetition of images and grayish or whitish tone express the coldness of contemporary culture. ● After all, by transforming or combining everyday objects in an unfamiliar way and reconstructing images, I try to create another world of reality plus fantasy of dream in my work. ■ JUNGWOONSUN
