건축은 나에게 신비로운 소문, 신화 같은 것이었다. 나와 만난 적도 없고 만날 일도 없을 것 같은 신화. 신화라는 것이 그렇듯이 항상 서점에 꽃혀있는 책이나 인쇄물, jpg로 된 이미지로만 접해야 하는 것이었고 난 죽어도 그 곳엔 갈 수 없을 것 같은 느낌이 있었다. 르 코르뷔지에(Le Corbusier), 램 쿨하스(Remment Koolhaas), 다니엘 리베스킨트(Daniel Libeskind)등 매일 듣는 이름이고 가끔 한국에도 온다는데 만날 수가 없었다. 만나지 못하는 이유는 사실 비뚤어진 나에게 있다. 내가 말로만 건축을 사랑하는 것이지 건축의 실체는 사랑하지 않는 것이 그 이유다. 비행기타가며 그 건축의 실체를 보러 몸을 혹사시킬 생각이 나에겐 없는 것이다. 당신들은 어떠한가? 예를 들어 송은갤러리(Song Eun Gallery)가 속해있는 삼탄빌딩 로비를 걸으며 웬지 루이스칸(Louis I Kahn)의 건축물과 비슷할 것 같아, 라고 생각해본다든가. 그래, 램 쿨하스가 디자인한거랑 별 차이 없겠지 뭐. 라고 단정지어본 적은 없는가? 나만 그런가? 지금 이 글을 쓰면서도 내 방에 있는데 여기랑 모마랑 별 차이 없겠지라고 생각해보는 건 내가 이상해서 그런건가? 알바로 시자(Alvaro Siza)의 슬픔이여 안녕(Bonjour Tristesse)이란 작품에는 어떤 낙서화가가 알바로 시자 작품의 큰 특징인 창문주변을 빙 둘러가며 Bonjour Tristesse라고 썼는데, 마치 알바로 시자의 건축물을 통해 모든 슬픔이 사라지는 것 같다고 말하는 것 같다. 건축이란 그 존재만으로 위로가 되고 나에게 혹은 우리에게 필요한 존재가 되어가고 있다. 그 동안 국내의 건축가분들이 고군분투하고 있는 것을 보면서 아티스트로서 건축에 대한 입장을 표명하고 싶은 열정이 이제야 조금씩 드러나고 있다. 건축쇼에 전시된 작품들은 모두 실제 건축물에 속해있거나 해당 건축물의 가장 큰 특징이 되는 지붕, 단면, 창의 형태 등을 빌려와 아크릴에 도장칠을 하여 제작한 오브제들이다. 전 세계 건축가들이 고민하고 또 고민했을 작품의 얼굴들을 즐겁게 감상하기 바란다. ■ 김무준

To me, architecture is like a mysterious rumor or a myth where the myth is something I've never seen before or ever will. Like myths, I always had to look into books and prints in bookstores or images in JPG formats and thought that I would never be able to visit these places before I die. Le Corbusier, Remment Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind and other people are names that I hear all the time. These people do visit Korea sometimes, but I've never had the chance to meet them. The reason I couldn't meet them was because the problem was with me. This problem is that I only say I do love architecture but I don't love the true substances of it. I have no plans in tiring my body to see the real architectures I need to see by getting on airplanes. What do you think about this? For example, when we're walking in the lobby of the Sam Tan Building which has the Song Eun Gallery, we could think that it really looks similar to Louis I Kahn's architecture work. We could think that yes, it's not that different with Remment Koolhaas's work. Could this be just my opinion? Even when I'm writing this, is it strange that I might think that my room wouldn't be that different with Moma? In Alvaro Siza's work, the "Bonjour Tristesse, " a scribbling artist wrote 'Bonjour Tristesse' all around the windows, which is a big characteristic of Alvaro Siza's work. Looking at this, it seems as if it's telling us that all sadness will disappear through the architectural work of Alvaro Siza. Architecture itself becomes a comfort to me and is becoming something that we all must need. Seeing the architects in Korea doing their most in their work has me finally get some passion in wanting to express the standpoint of architecture work as an artist. The pieces that are exhibited at the architecture exhibition were objet that were created by getting all the roofs, sections, form of the windows and etc. and painting it on the acrylics which are the biggest characteristics of a structure or substances that really do exist in a certain structure. I wish that everyone would have a good time in looking at these pieces that were created by world-famous architects after careful considerations. ■ GIMMUJUN
