박상호의 트루먼쇼 ● 헐리우드 영화 "트루먼 쇼"의 주인공 트루먼 버뱅크는 자신을 둘러싼 세상이 단지 커다란 방송국 스튜디오며 그 속에서 자신의 인생은 드라마 속의 수동적인 주인공 역할 뿐인 것을 알았을 때, 그에게 그것은 충격과 동시에 해방이었다. 박상호는 그만의 방법과 수단으로 자신의 트루먼 쇼를 연출한다. 그는 재치 있고 예술적인 작업으로 관객들의 틀에 박힌 인식과 고정관념을 깨뜨린다.

그는 슈투트가르트 시내와 프랑스의 수도 파리를 사람이 살지 않는 건물들의 도시, 영화세트장의 도시로 나타냈으며 고도의 사진수정기술과 숙련되고 세심한 채색으로 건축용 비계들로 세워진 정면뿐인 모조품으로 표현했다. 알다시피 관객들은 믿을 수 없다는 듯이 그 사진들을 대하며 자신들이 속았던 그 트릭을 찾기를 시도한다. 그리고는 우리가 어떻게 그에게 쉽게 속았는지를 알아채곤 놀라움에 빠져든다.

개선문이 평면이 아닌 것은 누구나 알지만 그의 작업에서 그것은 실제 평면으로 보인다. 그렇게 그는 우리가 "실제라고 인식하는 것"과 "실제"가 조화롭게 인식 되어 지는 것이 얼마나 어려운지를 제시한다. 하지만 그의 작업들은 착시를 목적으로 한 수단이 아니며 기술적으로 뛰어나게 마무리되고 표현력이 강한 미학적으로 질이 높은 예술작업이다. 이것은 전시된 수정 채색된 사진들과 설치작업뿐만 아니라 그의 영상작업과 조각작업에도 유효하다. 이러한 다양한 표현양식에도 불구하고 그의 주제는 사라지지 않으며, 그의 작업은 언제나 "인식"과 "시점" 그리고 "공간감의 긴장" 속 에서 표현되며 특히 삼차원적 분석에서의 큰 효과를 목표로 한다.

그와 동시에 그는 우리에게 의도하지는 않았으나 무의식적으로 미래의 한 부분을 보여준다. 특히 인터넷에서 사람을 속일 정도로 공간적으로 현실에 가깝게 모방되어진 세계인 "second life (secondlife.com)"처럼 인터넷, 영화, 텔레비전 방송에서 미래의 잠재적인 삼차원을 위한 안내자로서 중요시되며 박상호는 그의 작업들과 함께 이러한 발전을 예술적으로 앞당긴다.(fine arts 2219, 슈투트가르트) ■ 스테판 슐러

Park's Truman Show ● When Truman Burbank, the main character of the Hollywood movie "Truman Show" realized that his life is merely playing a passive character role in series of documentary drama in a gigantic TV studio, it came to him as a shock and liberation at the same time. Korean artist Sangho Park presents his own Truman Show with his original methods and ways. He breaks the stereotypes and the conventional perception of the viewers with his witty and artistic works. ● Park shows the Stuttgart city and the capital city of France - Paris, as Potemkin's village, as a city in a movie set. He expresses the cities having only a facade being fake, that is built with structural scaffolds. He polishes the works with expertised, delicate colouring and advanced photo retouching skills. The viewers are then in surprise and try to find out the trick, but soon fall into amazement noticing how easily we are tricked by him. ● Everybody knows the famous "l'Arc de Triomphe" is not a plane monument, but in Park's work, it actually does look perfectly plane. He suggests how difficult it is to harmoniously perceive "reality" and "to recognize as real." However, his works have no particular intention for an optical illusion alone, they are in high aesthetical quality and technically completed in an outstanding style with a strong sense of expression. This is not only effective in his installation works and the retouched photographic works, but also in his video works and sculptures. Even though he has a variety of manners of representation, his theme does not disappear; his works have always been expressed within "recognition", "point of view", and "tension in space", with a goal to reach a big effect especially in the analysis of three dimensions. ● Purposelessly, Park leads us to part of the future in unconsciousness. Like "second life (secondlife.com)", the cyber world that imitates our reality which is very close to make the people believe it as real, Park guides us to the future's subconscious three dimensions and brings forward this development along with his works.
