1. 내면에 도사리고 있는 고요함의 서슬 푸른 빛 ● "매일 밤 날카로운 칼날처럼 서 있는 정신은 무엇이 불만인지 삐걱거린다. 수많은 밤들을 지새우면서 자아는 꺼질 듯한 촛불처럼 가녀리게 빛나고 있는 실낱같은 정신을 부여잡고, 회의에 회의를 거듭하면서, 종국에는 삐걱거리는 정신의 톱니로 괴로워하고 있는지 모른다." (파괴적인 성격Ⅰ-6인의 예술가와 1명의 침입자 서문) ● 제도권 미술에서(미술관에서) 성스러움은 세속에서 기인하고 그것을 투영하고 보장하는 성스러움이라고 Jhon Burger라는 작자는 말했다지! 그래 그렇다고들 하지! 가만히 앉아서 그 말을 곱씹자보면 수도 없는 생각들이 나의 머리를 휘집다가 종국엔 내 마음에 들어와 나를 엉망으로 만든다. 자다 깨다를 연 며칠을 반복하다 문득 나는, 감당 안되는 현실 속을 제법 똑똑한 척 하면서 다음과 같은 질문을 하기에 이르렀다. "나는 미학적 이상주의와 상업이 완벽하게 중첩된 현장 속에서 무엇을 위하여 발버둥치고 있는가!" 그리곤 올라가 있는 어깨를 주체하지 못하고 어제까지 휘적휘적 거리를 교만하게 휘젓고 다녔다. ● 2. 위대한 허구에 대한 순진한 반박 ● 이번전시는 예술가의 근본정신에 대한 질문으로 시작된다. 전시타이틀 앞머리에 걸린『Destructive Characters 파괴적인 성격』는 예술가들이 그들의 작품을 창작하는 과정 속에서 겪는 내면의 압박과 고통, 그리고 기쁨과 희열이 도사리고 있는 투쟁을 의미한다. 즉 자신만의 작업세계를 구축하기 위해서 작가들은 기존 질서의 벽과 울타리를 허물면서도 시류 속 풍문에 굴하지 않고 항상 젊고 쾌활하고자 하며, 전통주의자와는 전위적 위치에 서고자 하는 내면의 투쟁과 갈등이라 할 수 있겠다. 다소 거창할 수 있는 이러한 예술가의 기질은 사실 오랜 시간 작가들을 괴롭혀 왔던 것으로 해를 거듭해도 끊임없이 작가들의 마음을 들쑤시는 장본인이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 이는 아마도 '예술을 향한 순수함이라는 환상에 대한 지독한 욕망'에 대한 질긴 고집에서 빚어진 것이 아닐까 생각한다. 이번으로 세 번째가 되는 이 개념들의 작가로 김시하, 송지혜, 장광휘를 통하여 현재 이들이 추구하고 있는 예술에 대한 관점과 지향하는 점을 이 전시를 통하여 보여주고자 한다. ● 주의 사항 - 미술은 본래의 장소와 용도를 떠나 미술관이란 거대 화이트 큐브 공간에 이식됨으로써 '형식' 이라는 이름의 일관된 내러티브 속에 편입되면서 형식의 역사라는 '위대한 허구(great fiction)'를 만들어 냈다. 그럼 여기! 이들의 '위대한 허구'에 대한 '순진한 반박'을 들어보아라! ■ 김미령

나는 사고를 통해 진화하지 않는 예술을 예술이라고 생각하지 않습니다. 예술은 끊임없이 변해야 합니다. 스스로 진화해서 다른 무엇인가로 전이 되거나 진화될 수 있어야 합니다. 그리고 이를 갈구하는 사람이 나와 같은 예술가라고 생각합니다. 하지만(예술의 근본을 친절한 예술이라고 부른다면) 사회 안에는 상대적인 불편한 예술이 존재해요, 시스템과 구조, 일반화, 같은 것에 속한 예술들이 대표적이지요, 양 갈래 모두 예술이지만, 모든 예술가는 불편한 예술에 대항하는 안테나를 지니고 있어야 합니다. 수많은 예술가들이 그렇게 해왔기에 지금의 예술이 또한 존재하는 것이겠지요. ● 나는 일반화를 피해가기 위해 많은 시간을 써요, 재미있는 것은 예술도 공식 같은 게 존재한다는 겁니다. 이런 개념이면 형식은 이래야 하고, 어떤 식이어야 표현이 가깝다는 걸 배우고 차용하고 이용하죠, 그래서 나는 이걸 비틀거나 전혀 딴 짓을 하거나 하는데 더 재미있는 건 결국 이렇게 삐딱한 것이 친절한 예술이 된다는 것입니다. 사람들은 이 속에서 익숙하지 않은 다른 세상을 만나거나, 내면 깊은 곳 같은 세상을 만나거나 하면서 위안을 받죠. 예술은 일차적인 감각 이상의 느낄 수 있는 시간을 준다. 그리고 그의 삶에 가까스로 영향을 준다. 반복되고 구조적인 인간의 삶에 충격을 주기란 쉽지 않지만, 예술가는 본인이 바라보는 시각을 다양한 통로로 타인에게 전달시켜 크던 작던 일종의 'shock' 을 주는 행위를 고안하여 제시한다. 이 창작물은 타인에게 감정을 동요시켜 감각하게 하는 일종의 수단이 될 수 있다. 만드는 이나 보는 이나 감각의 극점으로 치닫기란 여간 어려운일이 아닐 수 없다. 특히 많은 사건과 정보가 난무하고 있는 현대에는 미세한 충격은 무감각하게 다가오기 일수이다. 이러한 상황에 강력하게 피력 할 수 있는 모티브를 줄 수 있는 예술은 무엇일까? 작가가 바라보는 세상을 의식적으로 다른 이에게 전달하여 이처럼 명확하게 소통되어 일치했을 때 정점의 감동을 주는 것이 예술이며, 하여금 정신과 삶을 풍요롭게 만들어 줄 수 있는 것이 아름다운 예술이라 할 수 있지 않을까! I think that it can not be art before the art beings without the evolution of reflection.The art need to be constantly change, transfer or evolution.I think that the artist is same with me who desires art like me.
