숲 속에서 (Into the Woods)

「Horizons」(전망): 설치, 비디오인스톨, 드로잉, 사진 혼합 ● 나는 공간과 공간의 시각적 인지현상 그리고 그것의 물질성에 관심이 있다. 나는 나의 주변환경을 사진 찍고, 직접 걸으면서 그리고 주위를 탐험하면서 얻은 재료들을 내 작업장으로 가져가서 작업한다. 나는 이것들로 종이 위에 형태를 만들고, 구성하고, 공간을 만들어 간다. 나는 또한 다양한 미디움을 사용하여 작업한다. ● 나는 오픈스페이스 배 전시를 위해, 캐나다의 고향 풍경을 찍은 사진과 그곳에서 채취한 진흙으로 그린 두 점의 드로잉을 가져왔다. 이것들 위에 현재 내가 머물고 있는 이곳 환경에서 받은 시각적 인상들을 바탕으로 새로운 드로잉을 제작하여 가져온 예전 드로잉과 사진을 결합시켜 보았다.

비디오 설치작품은 내가 주변환경을 관망하는 과정과 환경과 함께 변모해 나가는 아이디어들에 관한 것을 묘사한 것이다. ● 나는 이미지에 관심이 있다. 특히 이미지들이 내포하고 있는 내용들을 가지고 변형시켜가며 그 위에 또 다른 의미를 쉬 우거나 감추는 작업을 한다. 나는 화가도 사진작가도 아니나 여러 미디움을 혼합해서 작업하며 큰 즐거움을 얻는다. ● 이러한 작업 과정은 내가 무엇에 감명받고 또한 나를 둘러싼 것에 순응해가는 것을 돕는다. 이러한 모든 과정이 진실한 무언가를 잡기 위한 나만의 시도이다. ● 다음달까지 한국에 머무르는 동안 오픈스페이스배의 스튜디오에서 작업하면서, 배밭과 바닷가에서 발견한 것들로 설치작품을 만들어 볼 예정이다. ■ 나탈리 라포츈

「늑대 되어가기」2009, 행위예술 및 설치작업 ● 전래동화 속에는 사회제도에 순종하도록 하는 사회적·성성적 메세지가 담겨있음이 명백하다. 민속학자들과 정신분석학자들은 동화 속 이야기들은 어린 소년들을 사회화 하고 교육시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 특히 어린 소녀들은 어른들과 잘 교화시키며 성숙시킬 수 있는 교훈들을 동화를 통해 배울 수 있다고 말한다. 우리는 전래 동화들이 시간을 초월한 보편적인 이야기라고 생각하는 경향이 있으나 사실, 동화 속 이야기들은 우리들의 집단기억을 반영하고 있으며, 그 것이 전하고 있는 교훈들은 영원 불멸한 것이 아니라 시대와 장소에 따라 변화 될 수 있는 것이다. ● 동화 속 이야기에서 내가 관심 있는 것은, 그 속에 들어있는 욕망, 두려움, 윤리와 같은 사회 속의 집단적 무의식을 어떻게 표현하는 가에 관한 것이다. 나는 퍼포먼스를 통해서 '빨간모자 소녀'가 어른들의 판타지에 대한 복수를 위해 전사가 되어 가는 것을 보여주고 싶다. ■ 일케일마즈

Natalie Lafortune Work 「Horizons」 ● I am interested in space and visual perception of space and it's materiality. I photograph my environment and bring into my studio objects and materials from my walks or explorations. From these, I build a construction, a composition, on paper or into space. I use different mediums. ● For this exhibition at Open space Bae, I brought a photo and two drawings of my home landscape made with mud from the exact location of the drawing. These are combined with drawings made here of my (very new and young) perception of this environment. ● The video installation I am presenting also depicts the process of observation of my surroundings and the idea of transformation that goes with it. ● I am interested in images. Especially playing with it's content ans overlaying them. I am not a painter nor a photographer but take great plaesure in making compositions. ● This process allows me to express what touches me and also allows me to act upon what surrounds me. All this is an attempt at grasping the real. ● For the next month I will spend in Korea, I want to work in the studio of Open space Bea on an installation made from elements found in the pear orchard and sea side. ■ Natalie Lafortune

「Becoming a Wolf」 2009, performance, installation ● There is no doubt that social and sexual messages in terms of obedience to society's rules of fairy tales are no secret. Folklore scholars, Psychoanalysts have determined that fairy tales socialize and tame little boys and especially little girls to present them with lessons that must be got wise and cooperated well to reach adulthood. We incline to think of fairy tales as timeless and universal, but in fact they reflect our collective memory and collective truths even as those truths are in a state of flux over time and space. ● Therefore, what interests me in fairy tales, they point out the unconscious level of society in terms of desire, ethic and fear. With my performance, I intend to represent Little Red Riding Hood who became a woman warrior to get revenge from adults' fantasy with her act. ■ Ilke Yilmaz
