Share My Reality』展은 두 개의 예술 작품이 함께 전시될 때 나타나는 시각적인 대화를 탐색하고 관람자를 초대하여 이 대화에 참여하는 전시입니다. 이 전시는 영국의 전시 기획자인 트레비스(Travis Lee Street), 안나벨(Annabel Fenn)과 한국 출신의 젊은 기획자, 그리고 서울 아트 컬렉티브(Seoul Art Collective)의 소속 작가들과 한국의 신진 작가가 공동으로 마련되었습니다.

작품들은 우리에게 "바로 지금 세계에서 살아가는 현실이 무엇인지?" 의문을 제기하고 서로의 생각을 그 대안으로 응수한다. 각각의 예술가들은 독자적으로 공간을 탐색하고 인간의 내면 관계에 참여하며 전통 기법으로 가공의 사회(도시) 구조를 재조합 한다. 또한 매치된 예술 작품들은 서로가 동일 구조이거나 관념적으로 관련되어 있다. ● 문순영과 Jeffery Morabito는 우리에게 대리적 잠재 의식의 현실을 제공한다. 하나는 한국의 조상으로부터 내려온 이상 세계이자 다른 하나는 이상과 추상 사이에 천착하는 파편화된 공간으로 혼성과 순수성에 자리한다. ● 최나리와 Jean Rim은 성의 역할과 성적 관심을 캐릭터 같은 형상을 통해 찾는다. 동시대에 일상의 삶에서 경험할 수 있는 잠재된 성적 공상들을 숨기지 않고 보여주거나 한국계 미국 여성 정체성으로 보다 개인적인 접근을 가능하게 한다. ● Herena Kim과 Mike Hern은 외부 현실을 해체한다. 우리가 자신의 일과 사회 관계를 걱정하는데 몰두한다면 물질적인 구조들은 주의를 지나치기 마련이다. 이 두 예술가는 지속적으로 디지털 기술로 기록된 서울을 오랜 시간과 장인적인 손의 움직임이 협조되는 기술로 제작하여 이미지를 재구조화한다. 이러한 기법은 우리가 시간과 공간의 역설 위에 살아가는 풍경의 메타포를 나타낸다. ● 박소현과 Roxana Manouchehri는 작품에서 신체와 몸의 상념을 나타내며, 부재와 소외의 특질을 공유한다. 컨텍스트와 실재적인 몸의 결핍성은 물질세계의 본질과 기억과 향수의 범위를 질문한다. ● 이 전시에서는 소위 두 개의 작품들이 대면에 의한 두폭화(Diptychs by acquaintance)처럼 함께 놓여져 있다. 다양한 문화와 배경을 가진 젊은 세대들이 관찰하고 창조한 세계의 유사성과 차이점을 생각하고 종합하기 위함이다. ■ Seoul Art Collective

"Share My Reality" explores the visual dialogue that arises when two pieces of art are exhibited together, and invites the viewer to engage in this conversation. ● The works prompt us to ask"What is it like living in the world today?", and the artworks reply with thought provoking alternative answers. Each artist is an autonomous individual who navigates a place and engages in inter-human relations, then imaginatively re-stitches the social fabric through original aesthetic treatments. The pairs of artworks thus relate to each other not just isomorphically but also ideologically. ● Moon and Morabito offer us alternate subconscious realities; one an ancestral Utopia, the other a fragmented space situated between dreams and abstraction, hybridity and purity. ● Choi and Rim explore gender roles and sexuality through their cartoon-like characters, some of whom are allowed to uncover and play-out the latent fantasies of our contemporaries as experienced in their daily lives, as well as those enabling a more personal dissection of the identity of a Korea-American woman. ● Outer reality is chosen to be deconstructed by Kim and Hern. Physical structures often go unnoticed as we become increasingly self-absorbed and concerned with social relationships. Both artists start from an instantly produced digitalized record of Seoul and reconstruct the image using a painstaking, time consuming method. These techniques urge us to dwell on the paradoxes of time and space. ● Park and Manouchehri present the physical body and the memory of the body, sharing a quality of absence and alienation. The lack of a context or the actual body itself questions the substance of the material world as well as the realm of memory and nostalgia. ● Taken together, these"diptychs by acquaintance" work together to offer contemplation on the similarities and differences in perceptual realities created by young individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds. ■ Seoul Art Collective

■ Seoul Art Collective는 2006년 캘리포니아에서 활동하는 Ron Saunders가 설립하여, 한국에 거주하고 있는 외국 국적 예술가들의 활동을 격려하고 한국 작가들과의 교류를 지속시키며 서울과 수도권을 중심으로 공동 커뮤니티를 형성해왔습니다. 정기적인 포럼을 개최하여 소속 아티스트들은 정보 교류를 하며 각국의 네트워크를 통해 확장된 공동체를 목표로 하고 있습니다. 활동에 관한 보다 자세한 내용은 관련 링크를 통하거나 매주 목요일 오후 3시 TBS 라디오 방송국 프로그램 The Steve Hatherly Show에서 확인하실 수 있습니다. 이전에 기획되었던 많은 전시들이 서울에서 활동하는 외국의 예술가들로만 포함되어 있다면, 이번 전시를 계기로 Seoul Art Collective가 한국을 포함한 보다 다원화된 커뮤니티를 지속시킬 수 있는 뜻깊은 자리가 될 것입니다.
