휴식-이야기가 있는 정물 ● 누구나 쉽게 다가갈 수 있는 편안한 그림을 그리는 것이 나의 작업의 주된 목표이다. 길을 걷다가 마주치는 수많은 대상들이 나의 그림의 소재가 되어준다. '앗! 이거다!' 싶은 대상들이 수없이 널려있다. 내가 생활하는 지역의 각종 나무와 식물, 산과 도시에서 조형적인 요소를 찾는다. 일상적인 것에서 소소한 아름다움을 찾아내는 것은 참 재미있는 일이다. 누구에게나 무엇을 보더라도 마음에 와 닿는 형상이 있을 것이다. 바로 그 순간에 작은 수첩을 꺼내든다.

그것은 나에겐 수첩이 아닌 카메라와 같다. 무심코 지나칠 것을 마음속에 새겨두는 행위가 된다. ● 나의 그림은 형태의 외곽만 살아있는 실루엣으로 이루어져 있다. 이것은 객관적인 형태해석으로 그려진 결과물을 주관적으로 해석할 수 있는 여지를 만들어준다. 그림을 보는 순간 바로 무엇인지를 알 수 있는 것이 있는가 하면 그렇지 않은 것도 있다. 바로 알 수 있는 그림 또한 다른 대상으로 해석할 수도 있다.

실루엣은 모든 형상을 있는 그대로 표현하는 것과는 비교할 수 없이 단순하지만 그 단순함으로 인해 다른 대상을 연상시킬 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다. 이것은 그림자로 여러 형상을 만들 수 있는 것과 연관시킬 수 있다. ● 달 앞에 정화수를 떠다놓고 소원을 빌듯이 내 그림이 누구에게나 소박하게 느껴질 수 있길 바라는 큰 욕심을 갖고 있다. ■ 김형준

Still-life pictures with stories-re·lax·a·tion ● My main goal is to create an easily approachable painting. Countless objects encounter me to inspire my work. I find the art of figures out of trees, plants, mountains and cities around myself. It's such a fun process to seek trivial beauty in daily things. My small sketchbook gets dragged out of my pocket to catch a momentary impression. It's rather like taking a picture to me. The moment which could have been overlooked is now engraved. ● My paintings are in the form of silhouettes with only outlines. This allows viewers to subjectively interpret the outputs. Some of my art pieces can be spontaneously understood while others cannot. Even the ones easy to understand for people could be interpreted as different kinds of objects. Silhouettes are unbelievably simple compared with detailed depictions. However, this simplistic nature opens the door to possibilities for my paintings to be seen as different figures. This is like making various images with shadow. ● As people pray for their wishes under the moonlight, I hope my paintings could touch my audiences. ■ KIM HYUNG-JUN
