PROPOSE

『PROPOSE』의 1000자 이야기 ● 『PROPOSE』展은 학교에서의 트레이닝을 마치고 이제 막 기성화단에서 자신의 작품세계를 선보이기 시작한 젊은 작가들의 전시이다. 이번 전시는 동시대를 살아가는 젊은 작가들의 미적 감수성과 예술적 경향을 살펴보기 위해 마련되었다. 세계를 담는 이들의 작업 속에는 그들이 살아온 세계가 녹아들어가 있고 세계에 대해 그들이 가지고 있는 문제의식이 담겨있다. 부정의 부정을 거듭하여 예술의 더 높은 경지로 나아가는 예술가의 끝없는 길에 놓여 있는 하나의 과정으로서 그리고 하나의 완성으로서 이번 전시를 마련하였다.

작가 6인의 프러포즈 ● 참여작가들은 각자 나름의 시각언어로 프러포즈를 기획한다. 김선희는 자신의 자화상을 통해 내면의 방황과 감정을 드러낸다. 무표정한 표정과 자기 내면의 감정을 담은 듯한 살아있는 붓질이 교차되어 이중적 메시지를 발산한다. 박미경은 구심점을 향한 원형의 구성과 화려한 색채를 통해 자신의 삶을 이끄는 욕망을 향한 내달림을 보여준다. 사회구조 혹은 개인사 속에서 여성이 받아온 억압이 이면에 자리하고 있었음을 가늠케 하며, 작업을 통해 이를 보듬는 치유의 과정이 작용하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 실제 꿈 속에 나타난 스토리를 바탕으로 작업하기 시작한 서고운은 현실과 무의식의 세계 사이를 오가며, 인간과 동물, 생명체와 무생물, 삶과 죽음 등 상반된 것으로 분류되는 것들의 경계를 흐트리는 작업을 통해 의식의 단면을 조형화한다. 양유연은 작품 속 등장인물에 자신의 감정을 이입시키고 비현실적 세계에 현실의 세계를 적용시킨다. 특히 세계와의 관계 속에서 불완전한 존재로서 상처받기 쉬운 감성을 집중적으로 드러내어 젊은 청년 시기에 누구나 가질 법한 불안정과 고독을 표현하고 있다. 「Inner Physics」라는 프로젝트를 실행 중인 용관은 실재란 인과와 우연의 산물이라는 가설을 세우고, 인과와 우연이 공존하는 언어를 채택하여 이 가설을 적용한 연작을 선보인다. 하나의 보편적 원리 내에서 세계를 이해하려는 작가의 독특한 사고방식과 작업방식이 눈에 띈다. 육종석은 「도그마티즘」 연작을 선보인다. 이 연작에서 작가는 인간 군상, 연극적인 무대장치, 표현주의적 드로잉 기법을 이용하여 부조리하고 폐쇄적인 사회를 풍자적으로 펼쳐낸다.

현대미술의 101번째 프러포즈 ● 사랑하는 이에게 사랑고백을 하듯, 현대미술은 세상을 향해 끝없는 프러포즈를 해 왔다. 세계로 나아가려는 열정, 알 수 없는 세계에 대한 설레임, 불가능해 보이는 것에 대한 도전, 그리고 이 모든 것에 대한 확신과 신념을 고백하는 젊은 작가들의 프러포즈는 더욱 신선하고 자유롭고 진지하다. 대지가 얼어붙고 사회경제적으로 위축된 상황에서 가슴이 메말라가는 겨울이지만 이들은 각기 다른 방식으로 무장하며 프러포즈를 준비하고 있다. 봄이 올 것을 알기에 아름다운 이들의 프러포즈를 수락하시겠습니까? ■ 이정은

『PROPOSE』 ● 『PROPOSE』 Exhibition features the works produced by the young artists who have just completed training of art at school to introduce their own world of art to the fine art community. This exhibition has been planned to review the contemporary young artists' aesthetic sensibility and artistic tendency. The world they have lived are melted in their works containing the world, and their critical mind of the world is harbored therein, too. This exhibition is both a process and a destination for the artists who endeavor to pursue a higher dimension of art through repeated negations in their the endless journey of art. 6 Artists' Proposals ● The artists participating in this exhibition plan their proposals using their own visual languages. Kim Sun-hee reveals her inside wandering and emotion through her self-portraits. The brush touches alive enough to contain the blank expressions and the inside emotion cross each other to disseminate dual messages. Park Mi-kyoung shows us a drive toward the desire leading her life by composing a prototype attracted to the center of a sphere and using the luxurious colors. Her works suggest that women have been oppressed in our social structure or each personal history, while acting to heal the scars. Seo Go-un who has painted the stories of her actual dreams crosses the boundary between reality and unconscious world to blur the border between men and animals, animate and inanimate matters and life and death only to turn the fragments of consciousness into forms. Yang Yu-yeon empathizes her emotion into her figures, while applying the real world to the unreal one. In particular, she reveals the emotion as incomplete being in her relationship with the world to be easily hurt to express the sense of unstability and loneliness possibly felt by every youth. Yong Gwan who is implementing the project called 「Inner Physics」hypothesizes that reality is a product of causality and accidentality and thereby, adopts the languages wherein casuality and accidentality co-exist to present a series of works. What is conspicuous is artist's unique way of thinking and working to understand the world within a singular universal principle. Yuk Jong-seok showcases a series of 「dogmatism」 These series of works feature the absurd and closed society allegorically by means of human group images, dramatic stage setting and Expressionism drawing techniques. 101st Proposal of the Contemporary Fine Art ● Just as a man confesses his love to his lover, our contemporary fine art has continued to propose to the world. The young artists' proposals characterized by passion for the world, throbbing for the unknown world, challenge for the seemingly impossible things and confession of conviction and faith of all these things can be no fresher, freer or more serious. Although the earth is freezing and the society and economy are depressed in this winter, each of the artists is armed in different ways to prepare their proposals.
