오늘날에는 교육과 고용의 평등, 가사노동의 가치인정 등 여성의 자율과 평등에 관한 법률적 보장뿐만 아니라 양적으로 늘어난 여성 취업으로 여성의 사회적 지휘는 어느 정도 상승 되었다. 과거 사회전반이 배고프고 가난했던 시대에는 살 찐 여성을 복스럽다하여 맏며느리 감이라 했다.

그러나 고도의 경제 성장이 이루어지고 생활이 풍요해진 현대에는 살 찐 여성을 경원시하는 분위기가 조성 되었다. 현대여성은 전통적인 여성상과는 사뭇 다른 다양한 역할과 적응을 요구하기도 한다. 다양한 생활 장면에서도 항상 신축성 있게 적응 할 수 있는 전천후 여자(Wonder woman)가 훌륭한 여성상인 시대인지 모른다.

자신의 능력을 최대한 발휘 할 수 있는 시대의 프리미엄을 가장 많이 받는 사람들이 여성들이지만 그런 사회적 환경들은 하나의 가능성일 뿐이다. 정말 중요한 것은 여성들의 의식과 태도의 변화이다. 이 많은 특권과 기회를 선용하기 위해서는 여성자신이 어떻게 유연한 사고를 가지고 변화하는 시대 상황에 슬기롭게 대처하느냐가 중요한 것이다. 당당한 실력과 삶의 지혜를 갖춘 여성만이 이 시대가 요구하는 여성을 대변할 것이다. ■ 구승희

Today, the social status of women has been increased due to the legal guarantee about the freedom and equality of women(e.g equality in education and employment, considering houseworks as an economic activity) and increase of women's participation in economic activities. In the era of poverty and hunger, fat women were usually preferred as a wife because people thought that they will bring luck to their houses. However, in the modern world with developed economy and rich environment, people began to keep fat women at a respectful distance. Modern women are required to do a lot different roles from the traditional women. Wonder Woman that can apply to various of situations is considered to be the perfect woman in modern society. Women are receiving the premium of the modern world at most. They can show their ability as much as possible. But this social environment is just a potential. Most important thing is the change of women's attitude and consciousness. To use the opportunity and premium for most, women themselves should manage the changing situations and various of challenges.
