Le Pot Dore 금빛화분

더 컬럼스 갤러리는 6월 12일부터 7월13일 까지 프랑스 조형 미술의 거장 쟝 피에르 레이노(Jean Pierre Raynaud)의 작품을 선보입니다. 파리 퐁피두 센터 앞에 놓여진 금빛 화분과 베이징의 자금성 안에 거대한 신상처럼 전시되었던 금빛화분으로 널리 알려진 레이노는 1963년 콘크리트로 속을 채운 빨간 화분을 발표하며 이브 클라인(Yves Klein), 다니엘 스포에리(Daniel Spoerri), 레이몽 앵스(Raymond Hains), 쟝 텡글리(Jean Tinguely) 등과 함께 프랑스 현대미술의 태동을 알렸습니다. 이는 시기적으로 누보 리얼리즘 작가들이 일상 생활에서 발견되는 평범한 사물로 작품을 만들어 내기 시작한 때로 미국의 팝 아트처럼 서구 소비문화의 현실과 진부함이 작업의 키워드였습니다.

레이노 역시 화분이라는 생활 속의 오브제를 이용 하였지만 이러한 일상적 소재를 통해 피상이 아닌 존재의 내적 의미를 드러내고자 했던 점에서 차이를 보입니다. 그러한 개념적 맥락에서 레이노는 종종 이브 클라인과 견주어 지기도 하고, 형태의 명료함과 공감각적 강렬함에 있어 도널드 저드와도 비교되곤 합니다. 이번에 전시되는 화분들은 195cm에 이르는 거대한 크기에서부터 30cm의 실물 사이즈, 그리고 17cm의 다양한 소형 크기 등의 다양함으로 공간 속에서 각각 다른 힘과 존재감을 드러낼 것입니다. 간결함과 강렬한 힘이 동시에 느껴지는 레드, 블루, 그린, 옐로우, 골드 등 미니멀한 색으로 칠해진 그의 화분들은 20세기 색채 혁명의 선구자였던 앙리 마티스의 역동적인 색감이 현대 조형 미술의 언어로 화려하게 부활한 예로 손꼽히고 있습니다. 레이노의 화분들이 던지는 강렬한 힘의 매력을 더 컬럼스 갤러리에서 느껴 보시기 바랍니다. ■ 장동조

Jean Pierre Raynaud ● The Columns is pleased to announce the exhibition of Jean Pierre Raynauds Le Pot Dore. The flower pot has been the leitmotif in Raynauds work and is produced in many versions of color and size. The immense golden pot that was displayed in the Forbidden City in Peking and the one that is in permanent view to the public in Centre du Pompidou earned him a great deal of publicity and fame. Raynauds first pot was created in the early sixties, which he painted red and filled with cement. It was during this period that the artists of Nouveau Realism were making works of art from all sorts of ordinary materials and objects. Like its counterpart in America, the American Pop Art, these artworks expressed the day-to-day reality and the banality of the Western consumer society. But in the case of Raynaud, despite the fact that he also makes use of materials from the everyday environment, the artist does not refer to the superficiality but the spirituality and inner strength of human existence. In this respect, Raynaud displays an affinity with that of Yves Klein in terms of the clear-cut color schemes and through the clarity of form and intensity of spatial experience, one might also find some similarity to Donald Judds works.

The pots on exhibition range from small versions of 17cm to an immense size of 195cm and will certainly offer various spatial experience and charm. The simple, yet strikingly vivid colors of red, blue, green, yellow and gold will show the viewers the serene depth of spirituality. ■ Dong Jo Chang
