어느만큼 왔니?

"어느만큼 왔니?" ● 바람이 만들어 내는 잎새의 날렵한 선(線)은 하늘에 악보를 그려내고, 나무는 사락거리며 연주를 한다. 한 그루의 나무라도 그 속에선 항상 크고 작은 사건들이 일어난다. 그것은 종종 느리게 바람을 타고 있는 가로수와 그 밑을 질주하는 자동차가 묘하게 부딪치는 풍경처럼 마치 그들만의 언어나 시간체계가 따로 존재하는 듯한 느낌을 불러일으킬 때가 있다. 나의 작업은 자연너머 우리가 미처 지각하지 못 하는 또 다른 세계에 대한 호기심에서 시작한다.

봄바람이 살랑거리는 저 숲을 조금만 깊이 들어가면 만날 수 있는 유유히 흐르는 강-그 강의 이름은 망각의 강. 이번에 전시는 이 강이 흐르는 풍경에 대한 단상(斷想)이다. 그리스 신화에 등장하는 '망각의 강'은 산 자와 죽은 자의 경계이기도 하다. 우리는 죽음을 삶 저편의 것으로 쉽게 밀어놓기 마련이지만 죽음은 삶의 또 다른 면일 뿐이다. 그것을 의식하는 순간 '지금, 여기'는 기적과도 같은 또 다른 세계의 삶이 된다. 재미있는 사실은 자연이 내뿜는 생(生)의 변화에 민감할수록 전혀 다른 두 세계를 오가는 문이 넓어진다는 것이다.

우리에게 많은 것을 생각하게 한 "어린왕자"도 노랑 뱀의 도움으로 지구별 세계의 여행을 끝낸다. 누구나 생떽쥐베리의 어린 왕자처럼 "죽은 듯 보이는" 상태를 계기로 먼 여행길을 떠나야할 때가 있다. 건드리는 사람마다 자신이 나왔던 땅으로 '돌려'보낼 수 있다는 노랑 뱀은 배보다도 더 먼 곳으로 어린왕자를 데려다줄 수 있다고 말한다. 그 먼 곳에 대해 알려진 바 없고, 경험한 이의 말을 어디서도 구할 수 없기에 누구나 망각의 강을 건너는 길은 두렵다. 하지만 여행이란 항상 미지에 대한 불안만큼이나 여러 색의 이야기를 갖기 마련이다. 곧 어제가 되어버릴 오늘 하루도 우리가 예측할 수 없었기는 마찬가지 아닌가? 강을 따라 펼쳐지는 그 길은 어둡고 두려운 것이 아니다. 우리에게 익숙하면서도 낯선 풍경으로 지금도 우리가 걸어가고 있는 이 여행길과 맞닿아 있다. 이 봄, 발밑에 피어난 패랭이꽃이 길 저편에도 피어 있을 것이다. 과연 우리는 그 길의 어느만큼 와 있는 것일까? ■ 김현수

"How far are we now?" ● The lines of leaves by the wind make music note in the sky, trees are starting to play music.There are many happenings within a tree. Like landscape with a car which is passing the trees in the street which are waving by the wind, It seems like they have their own language and time system.A river which I can meet when I got into the forest with spring wind-It's the river of forgetting.

This exhibition is my short thought of the landscape of this river. 'Forgetting river' in Greek myth is a boarder between death and live. We used to put away the death as if it's not related with live but death is a life in another world. Once if we realize that, 'now, here' become a life in another world like a miracle. Interesting thing is that the door between death and live become wider when we are more sensitive about the diversity of nature's breath.

Well known story "The little Prince" finishes his journey help from yellow snake makes us to think many aspects. Like the little prince from Saint Exupery, We sometimes have to leave for a long journey caused by "a look like dead" situation. When someone touch the yellow snake they can be travelled to the place where they came. The yellow snake said that he can send the little prince further than the boat. The place further than the boat is not known and nobody experienced there. That's why crossing the forgetting river is fearful. But a journey has many different kind of colors of stories as well as fear for unknown places. We cannot even guess today which is going to become the yesterday soon. The way along the river is not that dark or frightened. they have same familiar landscape as the way which we are walking along now. This spring, sinensis under my feet would be come out over there too. Well... how far are we now? ■ kim hyun soo
