삶의 무기

'삶의 무기' Weapons of Life ● 무기는 일반적으로 '전쟁에 쓰이는 온갖 기구'를 뜻하며, 가해력을 행사하거나 그것으로부터 스스로를 방어하기위한 수단으로 인식된다. 하지만 사람을 해치고 건물을 폭파하는 폭력의 수단으로서의 무기만이 무기라 할 수 있을까? 우리의 일상은 끊이지 않는 욕망과 치열한 경쟁 속에서 스스로 살아가기 위한 또는 살아남기 위한 몸부림의 연속으로 이루어진다. 이러한 일상 속에서 자신을 지키기 위해 무장할 수 있는 도구들은 삶이라는 전쟁터에서의 무기와 같다. 갈증이 나면 음료수를, 더위에는 시원한 바람을, 배고픔에는 음식으로서 욕망을 충족시키고, 자동차와 열쇠, 가전제품 등은 우리의 일상을 좀더 풍요롭게 해주는 동시에 보이지 않는 타인과의 계급적 우월성을 내포하며 우리를 무장시킨다. 또는 개인적인 상황에 따라 변화하는 무기라 지칭할 수 있는 일상의 물건들을 통해 우리의 삶은 좀더 치열해지며, 자기 자신을 숨기기도, 내세우기도 하며 각자 고유의 무기를 가지고 살아간다.

나의 작업은 삶이라는 전쟁터에서의 무기인 가전제품과 자동차, 개인적인 삶의 무기(붓, 주사기, 코카콜라 등)를 소재로 한다. 삶의 무기들은 장지 위에 날카로운 니들로 긁어져 종이가 상하고 터지는 듯한 느낌으로 표현된다. 이것은 삶의 전쟁터에서 치열한 모습으로 살아가는 우리의 모습인 동시에 삶의 전쟁터에서 사용된 무기들의 긁히고 오래되고 낡은 모습이다. 삶의 무기들은 항상 우리 주위에 존재하며 많은 이들에게 공유되고 사용된 흔적으로 새것처럼 보이지는 않는다. 무기들에게서 나는 소리나 움직임 또한 새것과 같지 않다. 무기 주변을 가득 메운 짧은 선은 각각의 무기들의 몸부림과 같다. 전쟁터에서 들려오는 폭발소리의 공포감은 없지만, 삶이라는 전쟁터에서 들려오는 "삑삐빅.. 털털털.. 부르르.. 끼기긱.." 거리는 무기들의 작은 소리에는 우리의 삶이 담겨져 있다. 우리는 앞으로 어떤 또 다른 무기들로 우리를 무장할까? ■ 한영균

Weapons, generally referring to "various instruments used in war", are recognized as a means of attack or self-defense against it. However, can we call only violent means of doing people harm or blowing up buildings weapons? Our daily routines are composed of a series of struggles to live out by oneself or survive in the midst of constant desires and keen competition. In these daily routines, such instruments armed to protect oneself are like weapons in the war of life. Individuals satisfy their needs as thirst requires water, heat requires fresh wind, and hunger requires food. Cars, keys, or home appliances make everyday life richer and simultaneously arm individuals with implications of class superiority over others who are not viewed. On the other hand, life becomes keener through daily items that are referred to as "weapons that change depending on personal situations": everyone has his/her own weapons as some would hide themselves, and others would show themselves. ● My work uses home appliances and cars that are weapons in the battlefield of life, and my personal weapons of life (writing brush, syringe, Coca Cola) as materials. The weapons of life are expressed in the feeling as if paper is damaged and ripped with Jang-ji(Korean paper) scratched by a sharp needle. This provides two images: one is the image of individuals who live fiercely in the battlefield of life, and another is the image of old weapons that have been used in the battlefield of life to be scratched and worn. The weapons of life are always present before individuals, and never look like new ones because of the vestiges that have been shared and used by many people. Sound or movement from the weapons is not like new one, either. The short lines that fill up around the weapons tight are like struggles of each weapon. There is no fear of blasts from the battlefield, but the lower sounds of the weapons that shriek, clatter, vroom, ... imply our life. In the future, with what weapons will we arm ourselves? ■
